Course Overview

The Level 4 Extended Diploma in Business and Management (120-credit) offers learners a broad and comprehensive experience of business and the opportunity to engage with a wide range of Level 4 business and management topics.

The breadth of study supports personal development and career progression to management roles, provides a base for continued learning and helps learners improve their knowledge, understanding and skills.

Students experience tutor-led teaching, guided practical workshops, independent study, discussion-based learning and presentations while developing communication, research, documentation and professional practice.

The programme builds the knowledge and evidence needed for employment, further study or higher-level professional development in business and management.

Typical age: 18 and above.

The usual entry profile includes one of the following:

  • Two or more GCE Advanced Level subjects supported by five or more GCSEs at grade C/4 or above
  • A related Level 3 qualification such as an ATHE Level 3 Diploma
  • An Access to Higher Education Certificate delivered by an approved further education institution and validated by an Access Validating Agency
  • An equivalent international qualification

Recommended English proficiency is IELTS 5.5, CEFR B2, Cambridge English Advanced 162 or above, Pearson PTE Academic 42–49, or an approved equivalent.

The course is delivered over 10 months and comprises eight units totalling 120 credits. Each unit is approximately five weeks, giving approximately 40 teaching weeks.

Part-time attendance for two days a week through hybrid delivery. Flexible enrolment dates are available.

Scheduled classes total approximately 12 hours a week across the two attendance days.

The qualification is assessed entirely through internally assessed assignments and coursework; there are no formal written examinations. Work is assessed by the approved centre and subject to ATHE quality assurance. The qualification is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Methods include written assignments and reports, business case-study analysis, research projects, individual presentations, reflective evaluations, business plans and proposals, practical workplace-based or simulated tasks, data analysis, problem-solving activities and professional discussions or presentations.

The programme supports progression into management roles, employment, Level 5 study or other higher-level professional development in business and management.
